Rod seals are typically single-acting seals,which means that fluid pressure acts from inside the cylinder on one seal side only. Pressures acting on the rod side of the piston can be in excess of 400 bar (5 800 psi), pressure peaks can be even higher. The pressure acting on the rod seal increases contact forces between the rod seal and rod surfaces. Therefore, rod seal materials should be wear resistant and the rod surface needs to be manu factured to the commended specifications .

The working condition of the excavator cylinder is very bad. The main performance is as follows: the working pressure of the hydraulic system is large; the impact pressure is relatively high; the lateral load is large; the working temperature and the moving frequency are relatively high. Therefore, the performance of the excavator cylinder will have a direct impact on the quality of the entire machine.
